| About | Situated in the east of the island, Santa Eulalia gets its name (Santa Eulalia Des Riu) from the now dried up river that runs through it. Noted for its friendly and relaxed atmosphere, it is more dedicated to the family orientated Ibiza Holiday. However, with more than 100 restaurants and an equal amount of bars it is also the perfect holiday location for romantic couples. The marina makes for a pleasant stroll with multi million pound boat row (the one nearest to the beach) a must see. The cafe strewn main street is the perfect location for morning croissant and coffee. No visit to Ibiza would be complete without at least one visit to The Restaurant Street. There are (at the time of print) 16 restaurants catering to every taste possible. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| History | The Parish dates from circa the 16th Century when the fortified church (pictured above) was constructed. However it wasn't until 2 centuries later that the first houses were built and not until the 1960s that the majority of the buildings were constructed. As with all of Ibiza the main occupation up until the tourism boom in the 70s was farming and still forms an important part of town life. Do not be surprised to see elderly Ibicenco women driving around in the latest series BMWs. As with a lot of societies, the best and most arrable land was passed onto the first son, then the second son and so on and so forth with the youngest daughter getting the least arrable primarily sandy shoreline plots. Of course with the tourism boom, the youngest daughters found that they had inherited the most profitable land. |
